Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost Sunday! Happy birthday church! We celebrate the Holy Spirit descending on the waiting disciples and worship joyfully as we reflect that the same Spirit lives & dwells among us.
LET THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD COME DOWN
I love this song with its simple repetition that allows you to enter in easily into worship. Its a Nigerian hymn and we have sung it a fair bit at FFBK.
YOU'LL COME - HILLSONG
This is a song we have typically sung in Advent as we cry out for Jesus to come but I thought it also worked perfectly as it articulates the certainty of the Spirit's work among us as well as the longing in each of our hearts and lives for this to be more fully true in us every day.
HOLY ARE YOU GOD / BABA O ESE / HOLY SPIRIT
This mashup of several worship songs has become a bit of a staple around FFBK & here's the last version we did on Mother's Day:
INVOCATION - THE CALENDAR YEARS
I wrote this song late last year after being given the "Celtic Daily Prayer" book by Jaime & Travis Randall. This was the opening liturgy for the book & it captured my imagination instantly. At the time I was researching different modes & scales used in church chants & so I challenged myself to write this in the Dorian mode.
OCEANS - HILLSONG UNITED
This song was on my mind a lot last week as I saw a debate in one worship group about why it is so popular. Once again I just love how simple but profound the bridge of this song is:
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters, wherever you may call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
